Greetings!
I'm Daphne Rena Idiz—a researcher, writer, and educator exploring the impacts of and responses to emerging technologies in the screen industries. Currently based at the University of Toronto Scarborough, I’m part of the Creative Labour and Critical Futures cluster, where I teach and conduct research on media policy, production cultures, and the futures of creative work. Whether you're here to learn more about my ongoing projects, publications, or just want to connect, I’m glad you stopped by!

Building on my previous research, I’m currently looking at how showrunners, screenwriters, and producers are responding to generative AI. I’m especially interested in how this connects to ongoing challenges around intellectual property, fair pay, and the power dynamics between cultural workers and big tech.
As well as researching creative practices, I’m taking a twofold approach to explore how both top-down policy initiatives and bottom-up grassroots efforts are shaping the future of media industries and creative work. Learn more
